AZ - Day 4 (CBD)

Today we decided to go over the Goldfield Ghost Town.  After driving along the freeway 101, it petered out into a two lane road and the scenery became more desert like with only mountains and cactii in sight.  Then the Ghost town appeared.

There was a little train which did a tour of the old town and you could visit the old gold mine should you wish.  After stopping for a drink, we mosied on up the "street" to the saloon and sheriffs office, just in time to catch the gunfight outside the saloon.  The sheriff took on 3 drunks coming out of the saloon without paying... he shot all 3 down.  End of show... was good fun though.  There were quite a few interesting buildings which were now various shops.  The last one we called in to was run by an English man, from Ashford, Kent would you believe although his accent didn't sound very Ashford like.

After an hour or so here we decided to go along the road to Canyon lake which sounded lovely and cooling as the temperature was rising.  The road became very windy and narrow and the speed limit came down to 25 mph.  We stopped off a view point and the lake looked very inviting.  There were plenty of boats on it.  By the time we got down to the lake there was actually nowhere to park.  The sides of the road were taken up by cars parked at crazy angles and all the official car parks were full so we had to turn around and come back.

When we got back to the apartment we went for a cooling down swim in the "quiet" pool which was really nice... not very deep however but away from the noisy children so we could relax and read for a while before dinner which turned out to be an unappetizing burger!
