Day 2 - Part Two

Once on the ground at Fort Myers it was a short walk into the terminal building.

At the gate the less lucky people waiting to fly back north on our plane on AC1235 were able to watch us arrive.

Baggage claim quick and then straight out into the street.  Man is it HOT. It's what we came for I suppose, somewhere warm and sunny.

We picked up the car from Alamo. See other blog entry "Extravagant".

With the TomTom mount and power in the missing suitcase (!) it became handheld for Claire and once it had found the satellites we were off for the apartment complex at Fisherman's Village at Punta Gorda.

We arrived about 1230 local time and booked in. Did I say it was hot?

The apartment is about halfway along the site and on the corner, so we have two aspects, South and west facing.

I'm sure the balcony facing west will be good come sunset.

The apartments are on the second floor, or what we would call first. There are shops and or restaurants on the ground, or first to the locals... There is free wifi but we can't connect though the restaurant downstairs has its own and it is free.

As I only had the clothes I was wearing, we decided to look for a Walmart or somewhere to kit myself out.

A few minutes after entering the apartment, the phone rang. It was reception guy, Air Canada had rung for me. We togged up and went back. My phone bill will no doubt be high as I called them back and apparently the case has been located and was at Fort Myers.

WTF!!!

To get from Toronto by that time it had to have come on our plane!! There is only one a day!!!

It's due to be couriered to the apartment complex today.

Operation new duds still in play!

I put Walmart into TomTom and we set off and couldn't find it. It maybe operator error as after a few miles up and down a variety of roads we found it near the I75 junction we came off from the airport.

We bought food and drink as we intend to self cater some of the time. Everything is bigger here. Cartons of orange are BIGGER, everything is.

I ended up with some canvas shoes for $9, underpants for $7, plus three t-shirts for $3.85 each. Mostly Fruit of the Loom.

Once back, the shorter quicker route, we parked in the residents area. Unpacked the groceries.

The car showing the external temp at 89F.

I changed Into my new clothes, so much better in shorts with ball-net rather that constricting pants!

We ate at the Village Fish Market near the apartment. Very nice and first US beer of the trip.

Then we had a walk around with cameras to work off a few calories and see what is nearby.

Our first pelican. Sitting on the rear of a small boat in the marina.

As we were up about 4.30am we decided to have a kip and wake up for the sunset and then have dinner....
